‘Mashriq’ (poetically “the place of sunrise” – referring to the eastern part of the Arab world) deputed his dj career in Jordan’s capital Amman during a time when the local electronic music scene was still in its infancy and remained underground for a variety of reasons. Out of passion and necessity, Mashriq set up a monthly event called ‘Techno Thursday’, which quickly gained large popularity amongst Jordanians and expats alike, and thus helped breathe life into the nascent techno scene of Jordan. Mashriq plays both melodic techno and downtempo, depending on the mood and time of the day.
